With turkey numbers on the rise it isn’t a surprise that some of the most iconic companies in the industry are working together to bring hunters some of the best turkey calls on the market.
Recently Mossy Oak put together a cast of turkey hunters like no other, with guys like Bob Walker and Ronnie Strickland it’s hard to go wrong. This elite cast is working together to bring us Mossy Oak’s newest show called “Turkey Thugs” This show is all about teaching hunters to be a more effective and efficient turkey hunter.
The Turkey Thugs crew is affiliated with some very good friends of ours, those friends being Quaker Boy Game Calls. Over the past season of the show the cast has put Quaker Boy’s name in the spotlight yet again. Quaker Boy is even putting out some fantastic Turkey Thug equipment in December of 2011.
Boxes
Little Friend: This push-pin box call is by far the easiest call a hunter can own, which makes it a great call for any first time hunter. The box is made from solid oak which allows for an easy, seamless purr and yelp capability.
Box Blade: The box blade offers a beautiful American Hardwood Cherry lid matched with an American Walnut box. The major advantage to this box is the Quaker Boy coating, which means the box does not need to be chalked and it is one of the only boxes that can be used in the rain, ensuring you can bag a bird in any weather.
Slates
Rim Shot Series: The Rim Shot series gives hunters the option to pick up any of the 3 packages
- Rim Shot Glass
- Rim Shot Slate
- Rim Shot 3-in-1 Slate
All 3 of the packages come with at least two strikers, one being a Wildwood Ash and the other being a waterproof carbon striker. The 3-in-1 package offers an extra striker though; this one uses an acorn shaped head to produce some fantastic sounds with ease.
Mouth Calls
Having the ability to keep your hands on your gun or bow is of utmost importance when hunting birds, the eyesight of an ol’ tom is unlike anything else, this is why Quaker Boy is now offering four Turkey Thug mouth calls.
Just Bubba: This mouth call is one of the most basic out of the four; it is a two reed, 2 corner split that uses .004″ latex. This combo gives a nice light rasp.
The Swamper: With three and a half reeds this call features .003″ latex with a v-cut to give an easy medium rasp.
The Maestro: This appropriately names mouth call uses three and one-half reeds of .003″ latex. The Maestro is a corner notch call that allows for soft & mellow or hard & loud calling.
Gobbler Sniper: Using the standard formula of three and one-half reeds of .003″ latex the Gobbler Sniper strays from the rest when it comes to the cut. This call utilizes a corner notch, spilt reed design to give an excellent variety in sounds.
Locators
The Gauntlet: Like the Thunderbird this call is used by holding the hard plastic barrel and swinging the bellow around to produce a gobble to locate that trophy bird. If you are worried about making noise while on the move, don’t worry about that because Quaker Boy has you covered with a plug that comes with the package.
Crow Bar: Often when sitting out in the woods a crow will caw and the gobbler will respond, this is why the Turkey Thugs use the Crow Bar. This call is used by placing you teeth in the ridges, biting down and “cawing”. This is definitely an easy to use call that everybody should have available to them.
After Hunt Accessories
Once you bagged the trophy gobbler you have been waiting for it becomes time to mount it. The mounting can easily be done by following the directions on the back of the package of the Turkey Thugs fan mount. The mount plaque is made of solid oak, features the Turkey Thugs logo, and has the unique ability to house 5 beards.
As if the calls weren’t already calling your name, there is still one big advantage to picking up the Turkey Thugs calls, that being that it benefits paralyzed veterans. A portion of the sales from these series products will be donated to benefit the Outdoor Recreation Heritage Fund, the ORHF was formed to aid American service members and their families along with organizations like Wounded Warriors Foundation and the Paralyzed Veterans of America Foundation. Check out the foundation at http://www.pvaheritagefund.org.
